12 Sugar Cookies of Christmas: One Recipe, 12 Fun Designs


1/2cup butter, softened
1/2cup margarine
3/4cup fine granulated sugar
2teaspoons lemon juice
3/4teaspoon baking powder
1/4teaspoon baking soda
Dash of salt
1/4cup sour cream
1 egg
1teaspoon vanilla
2 3/4cups all-purpose flour
Cookie cutters


  1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat until smooth. Beat in sour cream, egg, lemon juice and vanilla. Continue beating until combined and fluffy.
  2. Add all dry ingredients to wet mixture. Beat until combined and continue on medium speed for 30 seconds.
  3. Wrap dough and flatten on a half sheet pan to chill for about 1 hour.
  4. Roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes and bake for 10 minutes or until lightly brown on the bottom.
Note: Using a silpat helps cookies to not color on edges.
