Sloppy Joes

1 1/2 to 2pounds ground round or sirloin
1large onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
1tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1tablespoon Liquid Smoke
1tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1tablespoon jarred barbecue sauce
2teaspoons sugar
Coarsely ground black pepper
1/2cup water


  1. Combine meat, onion, and garlic in a large skillet. Cook over medium heat, breaking up meat with a spoon, until no longer pink. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick. Serve on hamburger buns.
