Mobile Shrimp Gumbo

  • Yield: 8 to 10 servings


2pounds medium peeled shrimp
2cans chicken and rice soup
1cup chopped onion
1cup chopped celery
1cup chopped okra
4tablespoons flour
2tablespoons oil
1 1/2quarts water
1tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2tablespoons file


  1. Brown flour in oil; add onion and celery, and saute lightly.  Add soup, water, okra and shrimp, salt and pepper to taste.  Add Worcestershire sauce and simmer for 1 hour.  Turn off heat; add file after boiling stops.  Serve over rice with garlic bread.
