Cinnamon Apple Bars

  • Yield: 4 dozen


1stick butter, softened
1/4cup shortening
3/4cup confectioners' sugar
1 1/2cups flour
2 or 3-- apples
1/2stick butter
3/4cup brown sugar
1-- egg, beaten
1teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4cans flour
1teaspoon baking powder
1/3teaspoon salt
1 1/2cups confectioners' sugar
1/4teaspoon cinnamon
2 or 3tablespoons milk


  1. To prepare the crust.  Cream butter, shortening, and sugar.  Cut in flour.  Pat onto 10×15-inch jelly roll pan.  Bake at 350F for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  2. To prepare the filling.  Peel and chop apples.  Melt butter in a saucepan.  Blend in apples, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla.  Sift flour, baking powder, and salt.  Stir into apple mixture.  Spread over baked crust.  Bake at 350F for 25 minutes.
  3. To prepare the icing.  Sift sugar and cinnamon for easy blending.  Whisk in the milk until smooth.  Glaze while warm.  Cut into bars.
