Balsamic Syrup
Turn balsamic vinegar into a rich sauce that complements either sweet or savory.
Reducing everyday balsamic vinegar with a little sugar and some spices transforms it into a rich, luxurious syrup with all the flavor of expensive aged balsamic vinegar. Serve on everything from salad greens and pasta to ice cream and berries.
Ingredients (4)
- 1 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 star anise
- 2 stick cinnamon
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Simmer until reduced by one-third. Let cool. Makes about 1 cup.
