Snickerdoodles

  • Yield: 72 pieces

Ingredients

1/2cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1/2cup shortening
1 1/2cups sugar
2-- eggs
2 3/4cups all-purpose flour
2teaspoons cream of tartar
1teaspoon baking soda
1/4teaspoon salt
2tablespoons sugar
2teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and the eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.  Add the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt and mix well.  Chill if the dough is too sticky to handle.  Shape into balls.  Roll the dough balls in a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon.  Arrange on a light cookie sheet.  Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes.  Remove to a wire rack to cool completley.  You may use a dark cookie sheet, but reduce the oven temperature to 325F.
