Plantation Mint Julep

  • Yield: 20 servings


4cups water
3cups sugar
Leaves from 15 to 20 large mint stalks
Crushed ice
Kentucky bourbon


  1. Boil water in heavy saucepan; add sugar and mint leaves and allow to boil for 10 minutes.  Let cool.  Put mixture into a jug and refrigerated.  Allow to stand for at least 30 days.
  2. To make julep, pour 1 1/2 ounces of sugar mixture and 3 ounces of bourbon over shaved ice.  Stir and serve with short straws and a mint sprig garnish.
