Old-Fashioned Egg Custard Pie

  • Yield 6 to 8 servings

Step back in time with a slice of this pie!


3 -- eggs, beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cups scalded milk
1 -- unbaked (9-inch) pie shell
-- Nutmeg to taste


  1. Combine the eggs and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat well.  Add the salt, vanilla, flour and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg and mix well.  Add the milk gradually, stirring constantly.  Pour into the pie shell.  Sprinkle with nutmeg.  Bake at 400F for 10 minutes.  Reduce the oven temperature to 325F.  Bake for 25 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.  Cool completely before serving.
