Old Fashioned Buttermilk Custard Pie

3-- eggs
1/8teaspoon soda
1cup buttermilk
1tablespoon flour
1cup sugar
1teaspoon lemon flavoring


  1. Separate eggs and beat yolks until lemon colored.  Add milk mixed with soda to eggs.  Mix flour with sugar and add to the first mixture.  Add the flavoring.  Pour into top of double boiler and cook until it thickens, stirring constantly.  Pour into pastry lined pie pan and bake until custard is set, 350F, and top is slightly brown.  (About 30 minutes).  Top with meringue made by beating the egg whites with 3 tablespoons sugar until stiff.  Return to oven to brown.
