Mom’s Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

1/2 cup COCOA
1 cup BOILING WATER
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
2 whole eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons soda mixed with buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix cocoa with boiling water until cocoa  is dissolved, let cool. Cream sugar and eggs. Add half of flour then half of milk mixture. Add remaining half of flour and then the milk mixture.  Add cooled cocoa mixture and vanilla.  Pour into a large greased and floured cake pan. Bake at 350 for approximately 30 min. test with cake tester or toothpick.
