Molasses Crinkles

3/4cup shortening
1cup brown sugar
1-- egg
1/4cup molasses
2 1/4cups flour
2teaspoons baking soda
1/2teaspoon salt
1/2teaspoon ground cloves
1teaspoon cinnamon
1teaspoon ginger
-- granulated sugar


  1. Cream shortening and sugar. 
  2. Add egg and molasses.  Beat well.
  3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls.  Roll each in granulated sugar.
  4. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.  Sprinkle with a few drops of water, just wet your hand and shake it over teh cookies.
  5. Bake at 375F for 10 to 12 minutes.
