Molasses Bread
- Yield 12 servings
This deliciously sweet bread can be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup white flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250F. Sift flours, sugar, and salt; set aside. Add baking soda to buttermilk and combine with the sifted ingredients. Stir in molasses and raisins. Pour into tow greased, nine by five-inch loaf pans, and let sit for an hour. Bake for one to one-and-one quarter hors. Serve with butter or cream cheese.
