Molasses Bread

  • Yield 12 servings

This deliciously sweet bread can be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer.

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup white flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250F.  Sift flours, sugar, and salt; set aside.  Add baking soda to buttermilk and combine with the sifted ingredients.  Stir in molasses and raisins.  Pour into tow greased, nine by five-inch loaf pans, and let sit for an hour.  Bake for one to one-and-one quarter hors.  Serve with butter or cream cheese.
