PrintEmail Ingredients Cake:1/4 pound butter or margarine2 cups sugar2 eggs, separated2 cups all-purpose, sifted flour1 1/2 cups milk1/4 pound (4-squares) unsweetened chocolate, melted1 teaspoon vanilla extract2 teaspoons baking powderIcing:1/4 pound butter or margarine1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar1 teaspoon cocoa or 1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted Cold liquid coffee Instructions To prepare the cake: Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks. Mix flour and milk into into batter alternately. Add melted chocolate and vanilla extract. Sift in baking powder and fold in. Add stiffly beaten egg whites and fold in. Bake in two 9-inch prepared layer pans at 375F for about 25 minutes. To prepare the icing: Cream butter and sugar. Add chocolate. Use enough cold coffee to make spreading consistency.
