Jerry’s Honey-Nut Wheat Bread

1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup butter or margarine
3 cups whole wheat flour
3-4 cups all purpose flour
2 packages active dry yeast
1 -- egg
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts


  1. In saucepan warm milk, water, honey and butter to 110F 
  2. In large mixing bowl combine 2 cups of the whole wheat flour, 1 cup of the all purpose flour, yeast, egg, salt, cinnamon and warmed milk mixture; mix to blend.  Mix in raisins and nuts.  Gradually add remaining whole wheat flour and enough all-purpose flour to form dough. 
  3. Knead on floured surface, until smooth and satiny, 8 to 10 minutes. 
  4. Place in greased bowl, turning once.  Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, 40 to 60 minutes. 
  5. Bake in 350F oven 40 to 45 until golden until golden and loaves sound when tapped.  Remove from pans; cool on wire rack. 

Makes 2 loaves.
