Irish Whiskey Chocolate Cake

  • Yield 10 to 12 servings

Impress your chocolate loving guests with this delicious cake.


Chocolate Cake:
4 -- squared unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
2 -- eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup Irish whiskey
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
2 cups heavy cream
1/3 cup cocoa
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup Irish whiskey
1/2 cup chopped walnuts


  1. For the cake:  Melt chocolate and allow to cool.  Cream butter and sugar.  Beat eggs slightly and add to the creamed mixture; stir in cooled chocolate.  Sift dry ingredients together and add to butter mixture alternately with milk and whiskey.  Blend in vanilla and nuts.  Bake in 2 9-inch greased and floured cake pans at 350F for 30 minutes.  After cake has cooled, remove from pans and slice horizontally with sharp knife.  Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
  2. For the frosting:  Whip cream and cocoa until soft peaks from.  Slowly add sugar, vanilla and whiskey; blend well.  Frost cake and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
