Indian Kashaaya

  • Yield 2 cups


1000 milliliters Water
4 scoops Indian Jaggery
2" pieces Crushed Fresh ginger
2" stalks Crushed lemon grass stalk
4 teaspoons Crushed Black pepper corns
1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1 dash Honey


Boil water in a stainless steel dish. When it starts boiling, add Indian jaggery & turmeric powder & mix well. Now add crushed fresh ginger, lemon grass stalk & black pepper corns. Mix once again. Keep boiling until it reduces to half the quantity. Serve hot. Strain & slowly sip this kashaaya, 1/4 cup at a time mixing just a tsp. of honey. Mix thoroughly & then sip. This Kashaaya should be consumed thrice a day after food. After sipping this, nothing should be consumed for half an hour. This soothes pain in once's throat & also gets relief from severe cold & cough.
