Hush Puppies

  • Yield 30 pieces

A great accompaniment to fish or seafood dishes.


1 1/2 cups white cornmeal mix
1 cup self-rising flour
1/2 teaspoon seaoned garlic salt
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 -- (8-ounce) can cream-style corn
1 -- egg
1 cup milk


  1. Combine the cornmeal mix, flour and garlic salt in a medium bowl and mix well.  Beat the onion, corn, egg and milk in a bowl and add to the dry ingredients.  Place the mixture in the freezer while you heat the oil to 375F in a deep fryer.  Drop teaspoons of the batter into the hot oil.  Cook just a few at a time until golden, turning to cook all sides.
