Grandma/Moms Oatmeal Cake

1 1/4 cups boling wather
1 cup quick oats
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 medium eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup coconut
2 1/2 cups shopped pecans


pour boiling water over oats and let sit 20 minutes. Cream white and brown sugars with 1/2 c butter. Add the eggs and oats with the sugars and the vanilla. Sift flour, soda, cinnamon and salt. Add flour mix to creamed mix spread in a 9×13 pan bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes (don't grease or flour the pan) Meanwhile melt together the next amount of brown sugar, milk, butter and vanilla, add the coconut and nuts. Pour over the cake and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until brown.
