Gingerbread Cookies

Molasses and spices fill fragrant holiday cookies

Ingredients

1/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup dark molasses
3 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cloves

Instructions

  1. Pour water over butter. Add sugar and molasses. Mix well. In separate bowl, sift flour, baking soda, salt, and spices together. Add to molasses mixture. Blend. Chill thoroughly. Roll dough on floured surface to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter. Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees about 10 minutes.
