PrintEmail Ingredients Bottom Layer:1 1/4 cups sifted flour1/3 cup sugar1/2 cup butterTop Layer:1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed1/3 cup granulated sugar2 -- eggs1 teaspoon vanilla1 tablespoon flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/2 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon nutmeg1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts1 -- (8-ounce) package chopped pitted dates -- Powdered sugar Instructions To prepare the bottom layer. Combine flour, sugar and butter. Blend to fine crumbs. Pack or press into 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes until light brown. To prepare top layer. Combine first four ingredients and beat well. Add flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; beat well. Stir in dates and nuts. Spread over baked pastry. Bake at 350F for 25 minutes.
