You are here: Home » Recipes » Delicate White Cake Delicate White Cake Recipe by chikster Yield <p>12</p> servings PrintEmail Ingredients 2/3 cup shortening2 cups sugar1 teaspoon vanilla3 cups sifted cake flour1/4 teaspoon salt2 teaspoons baking powder1 cup water4 -- egg whites, stiffly beaten2 -- egg whites1 1/2 cups sugar1 1/2` teaspoons light corn syrup (Karo)1/3 cup cold water1 dash salt1 teaspoon vanilla Instructions Cake – Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add vanilla; add flour sifted with dry ingredients, alternating with water, beating after each addition. Fold in egg whites, beaten with remaining t baking powder. Bake in 2 9-inch layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. (Cake flour can be substituted with 1 1/2 c cake flour and 1 1/2 c all purpose flour.) Frosting – Place all ingredients, except vanilla, in pan and mix thoroughly. (The secret to successful frosting ((if all ingredients are cold, place cold water in bottom of double boiler, also, start beating immediately after applying heat)) use same method if ingredients are room temperature.) Beat 7 minutes and remove from heat, add vanilla and beat until spreading consistency.
