Spread in a 9-inch pan. Sprinkle nuts over top. Combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle over walnuts. Just before putting into the oven, pour boiling water and vanilla over all. Bake 40 or 50 min at 350 degrees. Serve with whipped cream, if desired.
