Chocolate French Toast (gluten-free)

  • Yield 6 servings


1/2 cup heavy cream (whipping)
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 -- eggs, slightly beaten
pinch -- salt
pinch -- mace
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
6 slices bread, dried


Butter 7×10" baking pan.  Place bread slices in pan; may overlap if necessary  Mix cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, butter, eggs, salt, and mace in a saucepan.  Heat over low heat but do not boil.  Remove from heat and add chocolate chips.  Stir til melted.  Pour chocolate mixture over bread, be sure to cover tips.  Push bread down to coat all bread.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.  Remove from refrigerator 2 hours before baking.  Bake at 375 or until custard sets, about 30 minutes.  May dust with cocoa or powdered sugar.  Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
