Chewy Sugar Cookies
- Yield 30 pieces
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 -- egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 tablespoon buttermilk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a small bowl; set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla and blend well.
Gradually add flour mixture, being careful not to overmix. Add enough of the buttermilk to moisten the dough and make it soft but not wet.
Roll dough into tablespoon-size balls. Sprinkle with sugar or sprinkles.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until slightly golden around the edges but still pale in the center. Let stand for 3 minutes on the cookie sheet before removing to cool on a rack.
