PrintEmail Ingredients 3/4 cup soft butter1/2 cup brown sugar, packed1/2 cup sugar3 -- eggs, separated1 teaspoon vanilla2 cups sifted flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/4 teaspoon salt1/4 teaspoon soda1 -- (6-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate bits1 cup coconut, flaked3/4 cup chopped nuts1 cup brown sugar Instructions Preheat oven to 350F. Blend butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg yolks and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes with electric mixer, scraping bowl constantly. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Stir into creamed mixture until thoroughly mixed. Spread or pat dough into greased 9 1/2×13-inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate bits, coconut, and nuts. Beat egg whites until frothy. Add 1 cup brown sugar. Beat until stiff but not dry. Spread on top of chocolate mixture and bake for 35 to 40 minutes at 350F. Cool. Cut into bars.
