PrintEmail Ingredients Filling:1 -- (8-ounce) package dried California figs, stemmed and chopped fine1 cup sugar1/2 cup chopped walnuts1/2 cup hot waterCrust and Topping:1 cup brown sugar1 cup butter1/2 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon vanilla1 3/4 cups rolled oats1 3/4 cups flour, sifted -- Ice water, as needed Instructions To prepare the filling. Combine the figs, sugar, nuts and water. Cook over medium heat 15 minutes or until thickened, stirring frequently. Cool. To prepare and crust and topping: Cream sugar, and butter until light and fluffy. Add salt, vanilla, oats and flour. Mix until blended. Spread and pat about half the flour mixture in the bottom of a lightly greased shallow pan (7 1/2 x 12-inch or 9 x 13-inch). Spread filling evenly over all. Sprinkle remaining flour mixture evenly on top; pat lightly. Bake at 350F for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Allow to cool in pan. Cut 4×6 to make 24 large squares or cut 4×12 to make 48 bars to serve as snacks. Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with ice cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup.
