Buttermilk Fudge Cake

  • Yield 16 servings

A deliciously moist chocolate layer cake.


4 ounces chocolate
3 cups sugar
1 cup margarine
4 -- eggs
2 teaspoons soda
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla


  1. Break chocolate in 1 cup boiling water.  Set aside to melt.  Cream sugar and margarine; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Stir chocolate mixture until smooth; add to egg mixture.  Sift soda with flour; add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture.  Add vanilla; pour into 4 well-greased and floured 8-inch cake pans.  Bake at 350F for 35 minutes or until cake tests done.  Frost as desired.
