Brown Bread Ice Cream

1 1/2cups wheat and barley cereal (such as Grape Nuts)
3cups milk
5large eggs (beaten)
1cup brown sugar
1cup white sugar
1pint half and half
1can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
1tablespoon vanilla extract
1tablespoon maple extract (flavoring)


  1. Put cereal in a bowl & pour enough milk to cover it (about 1 cup;) set aside.  In another large bowl,  combine eggs, brown sugar, white sugar, half and half, condensed milk, vanilla extract, & maple flavoring.  Stir until smooth.  Pour in ice cream freezer canister.  Stir in enough milk to reach the fill of the freezer.  Freeze according to ice cream maker's instructions.  Just when ice cream starts to solidify, add the cereal/milk mixture & then freeze completely.  Makes 1 gallon (16 1/2 cup servings.)
