Bodacious Chocolate Cake

  • Yield 16-18 servings


1 cup Crisco shortening
3 cups sugar
1 stick butter
6 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
8 ounces sour cream
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar
8 ounces cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 cup semi=sweet chocolate chips, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Cream shortening, sugar, butter and cocoa together. Add eggs one at a time. Mix well after each addition. Add salt and flavoring. Mix well. Alternate flour and sour cream with baking soda added to the sour cream. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour and 25 min., check for doneness. Turn out on a wire rack after 10 minutes to cool completely.

For frosting: Cream butter and cream cheese. Add melted chocolate and then 10 x sugar and vanilla. Mix well. (May need to add a little milk for spreading consistency.)
