Tofu doesn't have a lot of flavor on its own but acts like a sponge, soaking up any marinade – in this case barbecue sauce.
- 1 pound brick firm or extra-firm tofu, sliced into 1/2-inch steaks
- 1 cup barbecue sauce, Chinese barbecue sauce or bottled peanut sauce
- Place tofu in a nonreactive shallow baking dish and coat with sauce. Cover and refrigerate overnight. When ready to cook, preheat a gas or charcoal grill. Remove from marinade and cook over hot coals 2 minutes per side.
