Balsamic Strawberries with Ice Cream

These tart berries, with a bit of fresh-ground black pepper, are incredible over vanilla-bean ice cream.
- 1 pint fresh strawberries, rinsed, hulled and halved
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon good-quality balsamic vinegar
- Fresh-ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 (1/2-cup) scoops vanilla-bean ice cream
- Combine the berries, sugar, vinegar and pepper in a nonreactive bowl and chill 30 minutes. Serve over ice cream.
