Applesauce Cinnamon Toast

1 cup applesauce, heated if desired
1 pinch nutmeg
3 slices high-quality white bread
2 tablespoons California walnut butter spread (see recipe)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3 tablespoons sugar


  1. Preheat the broiler. 

  2. Stir the applesauce and nutmeg together;  set aside.  Spread each slice of bread with 2 teaspoons on each slice of toast.  Place under the broiler or in a toaster over for about 1 minute, or until the sugar has melted – watch it closely. 

  3. Let cool a moment, then cut each slice in half. Place 3 halves on each plate and spoon ½ cup of applesauce on the side, and serve. 

  4. Serve with a 6 oz. glass of orange juice.  Serves 2;  each serving contains ½ oz. of walnuts.
