Applesauce Cake with Golden Raisins and Dates

  • Yield: 10 to 12 servings


1cup sugar
1cup brown sugar
1cup shortening
2-- eggs
3cups flour
2teaspoons soda
1/2teaspoon salt
1teaspoon cinnamon
1/2teaspoon cloves
1/2teaspoon nutmeg
2cups warm applesauce
1teaspoon vanilla
1cup nuts
1cup golden raisins
1cup dates, chopped


  1. Cream sugars and shortening.  Beat in eggs.  Add flour, soda, salt, spices, applesauce and vanilla.  Add nuts and fruit.  (If desired, sprinkle with part of the flour.) Pour into a greased and floured tube pan.  Bake at 325F for 1 1/2 hours.  This cake freezes well.
