You are here: Home » Recipes » Apple Pie Bars Apple Pie Bars Recipe by Margaretuncan Yield 3 to 4 dozen pieces PrintEmail Ingredients 2-1/2 cup flour2 tablespoons sugar1/4th teaspoon salt2 egg yolks1 cup shortening1/3 cup milk1 cup crisp rice cereal8 cups slices, peeled tart apples(about 9nine medium1 cup sugar1 teaspoon flour1/2 teaspoon cinnamon2 egg whites, slightly beaten1 cup confectioners sugar1 to 2 tablespoon milk Instructions Crust: Mix flour, sugar and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Mix egg yolks and milk and add to crumb mixture. Toss with fork until dough forms a ball. Divide in half. Roll each portion into a 15″ x 10″ rectangle. Line a 15″x 10″x1″ pan with one rectangle. Filling: Sprinkle the rectangle with cereal, arrange apple over cereal. Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon over apples. Top with remaining pastry. Brush with egg whites and cut slits in top crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Glaze: When cool – drizzle with the sugar and milk mixture. Store in refrigerator Note: Recipe doesn’t say, but I always use a baking spray on the pan.
