Apple Crunch Bread

The topping on this apple bread gives it a savory flavor you will love.


1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
2 tablespoons buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups peeled, diced apples
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon


  1. To prepare the bread.  Cream butter and sugar.  Beat in eggs.  Add flour and salt.
  2. Dissolve soda in buttermilk.  Add to batter, mixing well.
  3. Stir in vanilla and apples.
  4. Spoon into greased and floured 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
  5. To prepare the topping.  Cream butter and sugar; cut in flour and cinnamon to consistency of coarse crumbs.  Sprinkle over batter.
  6. Bake at 325F for 70 minutes.
