All Day Cookies

2cups sugar
1cup Crisco shortening
1/2cup sour milk, buttermilk, or sour cream
2 eggs, beaten
2teaspoons baking soda
2teaspoons cream of tartar
1teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2teaspoon salt
5cups flour


  1. Mix all ingredients together. Form dough into four ropes and refrigerate overnight. Slice rope into 1/2-inch cookies. Sprinkle each cookie with 1 teaspoon of red, white and green sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 to 7 minutes.
