What to Make on Valentine’s Day: Our Menu Flowchart

Holidays, Valentine's Day
on February 6, 2015

We’re lead to believe Valentine’s Day has a formula: Chocolate + swanky dinner reservations + love = Great success! So the love part is a nonnegotiable, but hey, some couples prefer pjs over glitzy date-wear, while others think chocolate is overrated. But for us? Well, we have found cooking together can be far sexier than choosing from a menu.

If you’re up for a date night in, too, then follow the flowchart to see which one of our five fantastic menus you should tackle with your honey, then get the recipes below.

Valentine’s Day Menus

The Good Stuff Menu

Serve hollowed out red peppers filled with feta, couscous and green beans for a vegetarian-friendly main course. Recipe: Stuffed Red Peppers with Couscous and Green Beans

Stuffed veggies already feel innately special, but when bookended with a fantastic salad to start and a pear tart with cardamom blueberry butter for dessert, you’ve got a knock-out Valentine’s Day dinner menu. This offering is vegetarian-friendly, but will satisfy all manner of meat-eaters.

Bruschetta with Tomato and Arugula
One Bowl Salad
Stuffed Red Peppers with Couscous and Green Beans
Seckel Pear Tart with Cardamom Blueberry Butter

Flirty Fondue Menu

Artisanal Cheese Fondue | Relish.com

Here’s a menu for the classic (albeit goofy) romantics—we’re talking about the folks that want to giggle and swoon over each other as they cuddle between messy bites. It’s also a great option for those who want to stay in without spending an exorbitant amount of time in the kitchen.

Set the Scene: Lay out a blanket in the living room and use cushions and pillows for seating. Make sure the fondue pot has a solid surface to stand on and isn’t at risk of being knocked over (fondue is really hot—and we’re not talking about the sexy kind of hot).

Gingered White Chocolate Fondue

Pizza and a Movie Menu

Hot Brown Pizza

Forget giant teddy bears and grand gestures! You’re the couple that likes to kick back, relax and spend time together without the fanfare. While we’re in full support of low-key, we challenge you to save Papa John’s for another night and opt for a cheesy, homemade pizza dinner instead with fun red velvet cheesecake brownies for dessert.

Garlic Cheese Breadsticks
Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies

Lovebirds Lobster Dinner Menu

"Just like becoming an expert in wine - you learn by drinking it, the best you can afford - you learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simply or luxurious. Then you savor it, analyze it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences." Recipe: Poached Lobster Tails with Lemon Butter Sauce

This is a menu for the all-star romantics (or those still in the doghouse for last year’s Valentine’s Day…) featuring recipes designed to challenge those offered at five-star restaurants. Set the ambience with Sinatra and an army of candles for the full effect. Between the tender, bright red lobster tails and chocolate espresso soufflés, you’ll be falling in love all over again.

Red Grape and Grapefruit Salad
Poached Lobster Tails with Lemon Butter Sauce
Whole Wheat Linguine with Arugula and Shallots
Chocolate Espresso Souffle

Standout Steak Menu

It’s hard to go wrong, or appear anything but impressive, when you prepare classy steak and potatoes on V-Day. To mark the occasion, splurge for the finest cuts from a local butcher and serve with pours of your favorite wine.

Steak with Three Herb Chimichurri Sauce
Roasted Fingerling Potatoes
Honey Roasted Carrot Salad with Meyer Lemon and Herb Vinaigrette
