A smoothie is an easy way to pack a lot of nutrition into one easy recipe—adaptable with practically any ingredient you have on-hand.

Folks are passionate about their smoothies, so it was no surprise that, upon asking friends on Facebook for their “go-to” smoothie, we got inundated with recipes for smoothies of every sort. Berries figured prominently in most, but to our surprise, greens (spinach and kale) and flax seeds were popular smoothie toss-ins too. Here are some smoothie combinations you may not have thought of yet—we certainly hadn’t.  Use more or less of what you like. That said, use a good blender and put the liquid in first to reach smoothie perfection.

Apple-Kale Smoothie

Kale (yes, KALE!) makes a sneak appearance in this fresh fruit smoothie. Use whatever proportions of fruit (and greens) you like.

Tangerine, Pineapple and Blueberry Smoothie

Use the fruits in whatever proportion you like (on have on hand) for this quick smoothie.
