Do you ever get the baking bug at night? I do. And let me just say, there is nothing more depressing than lining up your ingredients one by one only to realize…you’re missing something. Instead of crying over cracked cake dreams, take our advice and see if you can replace that pesky ingredient with something already in your kitchen.
Here are some of our favorite emergency substitutions:
Honey (1 cup): 3/4 cup maple syrup plus 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
Molasses (1 cup):1 cup of honey or maple syrup
Sugar White (1 cup):1cup packed brown sugar
Baking Powder (1 teaspoon): 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar plus ¼ teaspoon baking soda
Buttermilk (1 cup): 1 cup of sour cream or yogurt
