If you’re anything like me, the thought of eating a plain bagel is just plain wrong. I don’t care if it’s blueberry, cinnamon or pumpernickel, they all beg to be smothered in some sort of tantalizingly thick spread. But even though your mind and that little doughnut shaped circle of bakery goodness are pleading for cream cheeses and jams, your waistline’s not.
But have no fear! A healthy spread is here! It’s incredibly easy to make and only takes two ingredients: a ripe avocado and a dash of kosher salt. Just mash up the avocado in its shell, spread it on your favorite bagel and sprinkle the salt. Avocados’ creamy texture and heart healthy monounsaturated fats make them ideal for becoming a bagel’s best friend.
