For those individuals who have had little or no cooking experience, they tend to feel that all recipes they see on cooking shows or read about in cook books are extremely complicated and impossible to follow. This is simply not true. Instead of stressing over how you are going to make elaborate recipes from scratch, you can substitute certain ingredients for pre-cooked or partially made items. This will save you time, money, and effort as well as still give you the satisfaction that you single-handedly cooked a beautiful, delicious meal for your friends and family. Here are some great substitutes you can use to simplify your cooking:

  • Pizza Dough: All recipes that require some type of pizza dough (pizzas, calzones, Stromboli, Italian bread, etc.) can be made easier by purchasing premade dough. Available as fresh dough or frozen, once you have purchased premade dough all you will need to do is form it into a loaf for bread or roll it out into a circle for pizzas or calzones. Then just add toppings or filling and bake.
  • Pasta Sauce: For those who love Italian food, many recipes will suggest that you create your sauce from scratch. If you do not have a strong preference for a certain type of sauce, it is easier to purchase a premade one instead. Plus, store-bought pasta sauces are available now in a variety of flavors such as traditional, garlic, eggplant, 3 cheeses and more, so they still taste wonderful and add great flavor to your dish.
  • Pre-cooked Meats: If you're creating fajitas or want a hardy salad topping, you can buy pre-cooked and pre-sliced meats like turkey breast. All you have to do is reheat them or spice them as you wish and add them to your meal. Using these pre-cooked and pre-sliced meats will save you money since you do not have to buy more than you need.  Also, you do not have to worry about breaking down a larger piece for meat because the meat is already pre-sliced.
  • Pie Crusts: If you love baking, but do not have the time to make pie crusts from scratch, you can purchase them pre-made. Once you buy the pie crust all you have to do is fill it with whatever type of filling you want, and then bake it. You will have a delicious pie you can serve to your friends and family in mere minutes.

Substituting pre-made or pre-cooked items for other ingredients in recipes can help you cook even the most seemingly complicated dishes. The next time you are searching for a meal or dessert to make, just remember to look for areas where you can make these or other substitutions so you can cook it quick and easy.
