My mom has always kept her recipes ( from bridge club, neighbors, her sister, the soup can label) in a little brown spiral notebook. I revisited it on a recent trip home, and for a moment my mom and I were back on Trailwind Drive in our green linoleum kitchen.
Honestly, there isn’t much in the book. But the recipes were her favorites, and hence mine: Slick Chick Casserole, her fancy crab dip (made with Velveeta and sherry) and my first Quiche Lorraine, perfected at age 11 and the only relic from my ‘tween years.
Indeed, food is love, memories and a way of documenting life. These Almond Cracker Treats are a recipe my mom came rushing home with one day. It’s quintessential Mom—quick, easy, lowbrow and sinfully good.
