So true. While we can’t stop aging, there are some things we can do to age healthfully—one of which is to eat well. Try incorporating these top three foods shown to slow down aging, which help maintain a healthy body and keep skin looking radiant.

Reservatrol, found in the skin of red grapes, is an anti-inflammatory and can help slow the aging process. Reservatrol has also been shown in select studies to help protect against UV radiation damage—one of the biggest culprits in making skin look prematurely aged and wrinkled. Whether you eat them plain, frozen, or in the form of a glass of red wine, including grapes in your diet will give you boost of healthy antioxidants and keep your skin looking youthful.

Olive Oil

Olive oil—rich in healthy monounsaturated fats—contains more than 30 phenolic compounds, which act as antioxidants. Their anti-inflammatory effects can prevent age-related diseases and lower your risk for heart attack, stroke, heart disease, and high cholesterol. People living in Mediterranean regions that incorporate olive oil into their daily diet actually have longer life expectancies than North Americans!

Salmon

Salmon is typically served in America's North West for New Year's, and like pigs, the swimmer symbolizes luck. Salmon is a trifecta of healthy compounds. It’s high in vitamin B12 (a vitamin only found in animal foods or foods fortified with it), which keeps nerves and blood cells healthy. Salmon is also low in saturated fat and cholesterol, both of which speed up the aging process. In addition, with its deep orange color, salmon is high in the carotenoid known as astaxanthin, which is a powerful antioxidant. Salmon is also rich in omega-3s and essential fatty acids, which work to inhibit inflammation—one the leading causes in aging and age-related diseases.
